AIZAWL - Mizoram has the potential to harness at least 4,500 mw of hydro-power from its rivers, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla informed the state assembly today.
Replying to a question from Lalthansanga of the opposition Mizoram People's Conference (MPC), Lal Thanhawla, who also holds Power portfolio said that the data on hydro power potential was collected in December, 2009 by the state Power and Electricity department.
He said that while Wind mapping would be prepared to find out the power generation potential through wind energy, surveys were yet to be conducted to determine the potential in generation of power through solar energy and thermal.
He added that a number of hydro power projects were in the pipeline for which the works were expected to begin soon.
